Recently, I was approached by the Pat Conroy Literary Center to do a reading of my children’s book, Growing Up Gullah in the Lowcountry.
While flattered, I thought to myself, am I really the best voice to represent this book, a book seen through the eyes and heard through the voice of a child? Mix that with a little, shall we say, stage fright (hey, it’s been a while since I was in the courtroom, my vocal pipes are a little rusty!), and I felt at a loss as to what to do, but still thrilled with the opportunity the Literary Center had provided.
